SHIP CATCH CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Ship Catch Championship Series is Max-Q Central's way of tracking Starship's road toward one of the program's biggest remaining milestones: returning Starship to Starbase and catching the vehicle with the launch tower.
Unlike a traditional sports championship, flights don't compete against one another. Each flight serves as another round in the development campaign. Performance, vehicle data and SpaceX's next objectives determine whether the program advances toward a catch attempt—or whether another test flight is needed first.
Ship 41 completed Starship's first orbital mission, Although it did not make all 6 orbits as originally planned, flight 14 still demonstrated a controlled deorbit and reentry, and returned for a targeted splashdown in the Pacific. The flight also gathered critical heat-shield data intended to help prepare Starship for future returns to Starbase. With SpaceX now identifying the catch of Starship as a remaining milestone toward full reusability, Flight 14 became an important step on the road to the catch. Flight 14 provided SpaceX with another full mission's worth of vehicle data, but the next catch attempt has not yet been formally established on SpaceX's public Flight 14 material. Until the next flight plan is confirmed, the championship round remains open.
